Jan. 2022 Project Status Update: Structural Studies & Project Funding

Vera Aqua Vera Vita is excited to share that we’re getting closer and closer to being fully equipped to break ground on construction in mid to late March. This past month of January consisted of crucial steps that are necessary to advance the projects.

As the Planning and Engineering team continues to meet weekly to advance the project logistics, Remicio & Gutierrez (R&G) Consultants got their hands dirty in the communities on the ground in Piura - near the end of January, they started performing Geotechnical studies to determine the structural integrity of the soil for clean water infrastructure in both Cerro de Leones and Las Mercedes KM11.

They intend to have the associated studies and reports completed by February 5th. These reports will determine what structural design considerations need to be factored into the design of the piping and facilities to ensure proper construction of the communities’ new water systems. This is such an integral step to ensure the infrastructure will last for generations to come!

We are incredibly grateful to have two governmental bodies in line to contribute to the funding of this project! These two bodies, the Piura Regional Government and Invierte.pe (another branch of the central government) took the time to visit Cerro de Leones and Las Mercedes KM11 on Jan. 26 and 28th to start their assessment processes in order to solidify co-funding of the project with Vera Aqua Vera Vita. We’re so blessed to have this additional financial support in order to see these communities truly thrive!

The Planning and Engineering team was hard at work in the background, taking care of more logistical concerns to move the projects along. They met with the college of Engineering at the University of Piura in Peru (UDEP) in order to receive a list of possible solar panel vendors to help supplement the facility’s energy usage. They also completed preparations of preliminary pump and pipe sizing calculations that will be needed for each of the two facilities.

In these last months before VAVV turns to start construction efforts, we’re working hard to get everything lined up so that our very own VAVV Missionaries can help break ground on construction when they arrive to our projects in March. Please pray that our organization can continue to carry out its mission with the same hard work that’s carried us here.
