Dec. 2021 Project Status Update: Decisive Meetings
As Vera Aqua Vera Vita closed out the year of 2021, our projects in Piura have seen an important shift in development! While the planning and engineering team is still meeting weekly to develop the logistical aspects of the project and ensure that we have the proper certifications to see the project to fruition, they also got the chance to bring a few project options to these communities and hear from them what will truly be best for them.
Two meetings were held - one with the leaders of Las Mercedes KM11 and one with those of Cerro de Leones, both in the beginning weeks of December. These meetings served to make the communities aware of different technological options they have for the design of the clean water system we hope to implement later this year. After discussing actual water consumption and the communities respective ability to cover cost and maintenance, both communities decided on the same option - the Living Water Treatment System, originally designed by Water Mission.
With the community leader’s selections for this model of clean water treatment, now it is up to the Planning and Engineering team to make it a reality - this month, they continue to develop the detailed structural design for the clean water systems in Cerro de Leones and Las Mercedes KM11.
Another important meeting took place last month on Dec. 23. VAVV’s Planning and Engineering team held a meeting with the Mayor of Tambo Grande, Gabriel Antonio Madrid Orue, in order to coordinate administrative support to the project in Cerro de Leones (as Cerro de Leones is a hamlet of the Tambo Grande municipal district). We hope that this connection will lead to greater collaboration to see this and future projects through to completion.
Only with the full support of the people of Piura will these projects be able to serve the people with the sustainability and longevity for which our organization strives. These meetings with the community leaders and the leaders of the municipality are an integral step to ensuring sustainability and will eventually enable for the full integration of our clean water solutions into the daily lives of the people being served.
The Planning and Engineering Team continues to develop information, certification and authorization for the logistical side of the projects. In addition, efforts continue in the development of the Annex 7 for the National Water Authority in order to obtain final authorization for water works in each respective area, they are currently finalizing Descriptive Reports to request the use of surface water, and they’ve contracted additional geotechnical consultants to learn more about the structural integrity of the soils for infrastructure design and construction considerations.
The year of 2021 saw so much project progress, Vera Aqua Vera Vita has much work still to do and many promised to fulfill for the upcoming year, but with the support of partners in Peru and your continued support, we know that 2022 has great potential for bringing the gift of True Water True Life to the people of Piura!
