Empowerment with W.A.S.H. Education
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 18, 2020 | Dallas, TX
At the core of Vera Aqua Vera Vita’s project implementation is W.A.S.H. oriented solutions that look to holistically improve the lives of those it touches by securing clean Water and Sanitation Hygiene (W.A.S.H.). As a grassroots nonprofit, it is vital that Vera Aqua Vera Vita not only strive towards W.A.S.H. solutions but provides the community with the knowledge and tools necessary for its future implementation as well.
Since March of 2020, the VAVV team has been collaborating to create material for a W.A.S.H Education Program and is now proud to announce the completion of a W.A.S.H. Workshop! Thanks to the dedication of VAVV’s interns Anna Mueller and Meghan Johnson with the support of Founder & Executive Director, Jacob Niemeier, and in conjunction with support from CAWST (Center for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology) there is now a Comprehensive Workshop Lesson Plan containing a basic overview of W.A.S.H., why it matters, and best management practices to ensure quality of life. The workshop will be implemented in every community Vera Aqua Vera Vita serves and will be open to anyone in the community who wishes to attend. It will be delivered over the course of three half-day sessions which will include not only informational lectures but activities for handwashing, waste sorting, filtration, etc., with an abundance of graphics, pictures, and images to convey the content.
The program will be piloted in Monte Castillo next Spring, where Vera Aqua Vera Vita has successfully completed the construction of a water treatment facility and continues working towards long-term structural improvements. Each day of the workshop has a specific theme. The first day introduces the community to W.A.S.H., the second explains the technical and practical implications of grasping the importance of W.A.S.H., and finally the third day is a call to action for people to prepare a plan to implement the lessons learned. The overarching goals are two-fold: 1.) instill behavior change in the participants to put into practice what they learn and 2.) empower them to become advocates & champions for the cause to in turn go out and empower others.
Vera Aqua Vera Vita strives to not just implement clean water and improved sanitation infrastructure services but to equip the people it serves with the knowledge and tools needed to be sustainable for generations to come with the hope that they will create a cleaner, brighter future for themselves and their children.
