Aug '22 Project Status Update: Impact and Energy

This past month in Vera Aqua Vera Vita’s active projects, we’ve diverted all our attention to Las Mercedes KM11 in a race to get started on the project’s construction. We still hope to complete both communities' clean water projects and have flowing water within this year, but by focusing our energy on Las Mercedes KM11’s logistics first, we were able to make significant headway on its progress this month!

Before we get into Las Mercedes KM11, we’re actually traveling back to Monte Castillo for a moment. After more than 3 years of operating the clean water system, community leaders have reported that over 80% of the community water comes from the clean water system that VAVV empowered!

We want to gather data to truly show the impact we’ve had in this larger rural community - that’s why we’ve developed a post-project impact survey and plan to implement it in the next few weeks in Monte Castillo! We hope we can show you all the real impact you’ve helped us have in a community of 7,000+ people!

In regards to our currently active projects, August was a month robust with activity! We were able to meet with the Governmental Power Grid Authority in Piura (ENOSA) to request power supply to our clean water project on August 6. A week from then on August 13, they had already visited our project site at Las Mercedes KM11 and plotted the location to develop the project’s power supply!

Another significant development this month is the completion of a detailed report we’ve been working on ffor quite some time! The Planning and Engineering team has completed and submitted Annex 7, which is a report detailing the available surface water for our projects, to Peru’s National Water Authority (ANA). This submission should return to us governmental confirmation that there is enough available water for our project within a few weeks.

Once they get this confirmation from submitting Annex 7 (which is a part of a process called TUPA 13), the team can move onto TUPA 14, the process by which they secure the permit to actually use that water.

The Planning and Engineering team is making great strides to get Las Mercedes KM11’s full project construction underway! We hope September will hold even more progress in perparing for construction; we hope to receive full construction cost estimations from the Piura Regional Government and a few quotes from in-country contractors in the first few weeks. Stay tuned and support our efforts in bringing empowerment and health to these people in dire need!
