Pope Leo XIV's September prayer intention calls the faithful to safeguard water "with gratitude, justice, and responsibility." One Catholic nonprofit, Vera Aqua Vera Vita, has spent nearly a decade answering that call directly — building clean water systems in rural Peru and, just as importantly, teaching communities to sustain them for generations to come.

What began as a single mission trip became a doorway to deeper service, professional growth, and cross-border collaboration. David Cowan shares how joining VAVV opened unexpected paths to serve through engineering, faith, and relationships.

January marks a major milestone for VAVV as we begin reporting on four active clean water projects for the first time and launch a new atmospheric water condenser initiative that expands how we serve communities in Peru.

Vera Aqua Vera Vita founder Jacob Niemeier was recently featured in Canvas Rebel, sharing the personal journey, leadership lessons, and mission-driven vision behind VAVV. In the interview, Jacob reflects on the experiences that shaped his commitment to clean water access and the values guiding the organization’s community-centered, sustainable approach to impact.
