Apr/May '22 Project Status Update: Final Stages of Design

Over the past two months, VAVV’s active projects have seen so much progress towards bringing a sustainable, clean-water solution to two more rural communities - over 1,500 people - in the Piura Region of Peru!

The Planning and Engineering Team is nearing the final stages of logistical planning and project approval, which means that construction is just around the corner.

Back in April, the team received important information from consultants on the ground that will be vital in moving forward - P.E. Solis, topograhic surveyor, gave us a quote for the ground marking and staking process and provided additional information about the topography within the proposed project footprint. Subsequently, J&M Consultants, steel products manufacturer provided some guidance on the availability of steel for structual construction efforts being proposed in our designs.

From April 12-19, Ricardo Guerra Arbulu, Peru Projects & Programs Director, assisted/attended a series of conferences organized by the Piura Regional Government (GRP), which will lead to international cooperation on VAVV’s projects among many other things. Together with the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI), the GRP functions as a hub for communicating and collaborating with several governmental agencies and coordinating with other international organizations that can support the work of VAVV in Peru. This makes it easier for larger partners/sponsor to contribute to clean water system in the future!

Knowing how many lives will be changed, VAVV’s Planning and Engineering team is rearing to get started with construction! On May 20, J&M Consultants provided the team with important information about available materials and their correlated cost for both projects. This information will be vital in the next stages of the project’s total cost projections.

Throughout the months of April and May, VAVV’s Engineering Team was hard at work continuing the detailed design and the development of the Computer Aided Design (CAD) construction plans for Las Mercedes KM11. These are crucial completed milestones putting us one step closer to construction. Right now, the project in Las Mercedes KM11 is more advanced than that of Cerro de Leones, but our team is hard at work with both projects so that soon Cerro de Leones will reach this stage as well. Right now, the team has substantially completed Las Mercedes KM11’s construction plans and - after adding some final details - they hope to have the plans submitted to the GRP by the end of the 1st week of June.

Though gathering information and submitting plans may not look exciting, these are some of the final steps before Vera Aqua Vera Vita can start proper construction of an aqueduct to so much Good in the lives of these men, women and children, families young and old alike, for generations on generations to come!
