June PSU: Legal Progress and Missionary Preparation
As we finish out the month of June, Vera Aqua Vera Vita is pleased to provide updates on our clean water projects in the communities of Las Mercedes KM11 and Cerro de Leones in rural Piura, Peru. Despite facing challenges, we are making steady progress and are committed to bringing sustainable water solutions to these deserving communities.
Las Mercedes KM11: Awaiting a Crucial Decision
Oral Hearing and Legal Proceedings
In the wake of last month's disappointing and unsubstantiated disapproval of our water rights application, we had our Oral Hearing on June 4th with the National Court for the Resolution of Water Disputes. During this hearing, we answered numerous questions about our project. The appellate court is now considering our appeal, but they have not yet ruled on our case. On June 12th, the court notified us that they would need more time to make a well-informed decision.
Public Road Easement and Community Engagement
Meanwhile, our partner in these projects, the Piura Regional Government, continues to work on registering the unclaimed road as a public road easement. This legal recognition is crucial for us to utilize the road for our pipeline, which will eventually pump water to the heart of the community. Community leaders have also been notified about the upcoming visit of our missionaries on June 19th, which promises to strengthen our bonds and provide much-needed support.
Cerro de Leones: Building Foundations for Clean Water
Right of Easements and Water Rights Assessment
In Cerro de Leones, we have initiated the Right of Easements permitting process with various local landowners. Securing these easements is essential for establishing the clean water solution pipeline. The San Lorenzo Water Local Authority is currently assessing our TUPA 13 Water Rights Request, which we submitted last month. This assessment is a critical step towards obtaining the water rights necessary for our project's success.
Missionary Visit, Care Packages, and Community Training
Leaders in Cerro de Leones were notified on June 25th about our missionaries' upcoming visit in July. During this visit, our team of 17 Missionaries will bring care packages addressing basic water and sanitation needs. Additionally, we will implement our W.A.S.H. (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) and Theology of the Body training to empower the community with knowledge to protect their health and future. Our new and returning missionaries are excited to reconnect with these resilient communities and continue their impactful work.
Continued Commitment and Gratitude
Despite the challenges, the progress in Las Mercedes KM11 and Cerro de Leones underscores Vera Aqua Vera Vita’s unwavering dedication to providing clean, sustainable water solutions. We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support from our partners, stakeholders, and the broader community. Your support is invaluable as we continue to work towards a future where every person has access to safe, clean water.
