July 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic Update from Peru - Good news to share!
July 9, 2020
As of July 1st, the situation in Peru is beginning to improve. The COVID-19 induced quarantine in Peru is over, and now after 107 days of strict restrictions, the Peruvians can go back out onto the streets as normal. The federal government’s decision is a bit risky decision when the level of infection still remains high - Peru as a country has the fifth most cases of coronavirus in the world - although statistics reveal a slow decline in the virus transmission curve.
The measure to lift the quarantine has been made under pressure from the people due to the hard impact of the economic shutdown and long confinement and productive paralysis. The responsibility in this new stage, transitioning from a general quarantine to a focused one, now falls more heavily upon the people to ensure good results and continued decline in the number of cases. There is a favorable trend of decreasing number of infections, but the people are aware that if they are not responsible, there may be a flare-up. After these 107 days they all know what to do.
The quarantine will continue in seven of the 25 regions of the country (the city & region of Piura where Vera Aqua Vera Vita works is not in this group). In addition, quarantine measures will remain in place and throughout the entire country for children under the age of 14, who can only go out for one hour a day, those over 65 and those with diseases such as diabetes, hypertension or coronary problems. The state of emergency and the curfew are maintained, at least until July 31, which will now begin at 10 pm at night. The use of face masks is mandatory to go outside and on public transport, a space with a high risk of contagion, face protectors must also be used. The opening includes 96 percent of economic activities, including shopping malls and restaurants. Events that generate crowds are still prohibited. In the next few days, internal flights would be opened. Churches remain closed. The borders remain closed.
